Horizons founded its first ministry center in Beirut in 2012, as refugees poured over the border due to the Syrian Civil War. Horizons began seeing huge numbers of Muslims coming to faith and began partnering with churches to disciple hundreds of converts from Islam and train believers from all backgrounds to boldly proclaims, disciple, and equip others for the Great Commission in Lebanon, the Middle East, and beyond.

Horizons Lebanon has a two-pronged approach to ministry through our network of ministry centers and partner churches, and the Middle East Center for World Missions. Today, Horizons Lebanon serves as an integral hub of gospel proclamation, discipleship, media production, and training events, serving communities throughout the MENA region.

2. Collaboration and equipping, through the Middle East Center for World Missions

Muslim Ministry

One-fifth of the world’s people are Muslims who need to hear the Gospel. Many Muslims who profess faith in Jesus Christ fall away - frequently either returning to Islam or becoming atheists. There is a tremendous need for discipleship that solidly grounds converts from Islam in their new faith.

Horizons invites Muslims to a relationship with Jesus Christ through bold evangelism, Bible distribution, and humanitarian aid. Its initiatives are amazingly effective among Muslims, who are coming to faith in Christ and being discipled in increasing numbers.

Horizons intensively disciples new converts from Islam so that they are well grounded in their faith and can effectively lead other Muslims to faith in Christ.

• Due to their diverse cultural experience and knowledge, Horizons’ staff are uniquely gifted in discipling Muslims.

• Horizons challenges, trains, and equips national churches around the world in effective evangelism and discipleship.

• Horizons invests time and financial resources in national church plants and national missions movements, coaching and enabling them to become self-sufficient.

Strategy:

Horizons recognizes that Muslims are more open to the gospel than ever before, and is responding with its full capacity. To this end, Horizons Lebanon’s current strategic ministry priorities are as follows:

1) Continue developing Horizons’ ministry centers and missional communities in Lebanon and throughout the MENA region to make disciples among Muslims in partnership with local churches, and establish new ministries in other locations in the Middle East.

2) Continue producing evangelism, discipleship, and evangelism training content in multi-media and virtualized formats (books, curricula, video, internet, social media) for maximum global impact and distribution, and connect seekers with local believers and churches through a strong follow-up network on the ground.

3) Collaborate with, train, resource, and empower local churches to carry out the Great Commission through the Church Engagement Project and through developing the virtual platforms and in-person ministry centers that make up the Middle East Center for World Missions (MEC, middleeastcenter.org).

4) Expand the current MEC facility by purchasing and renovating additional spaces within the “Mar Charbel Center” building which currently houses the MEC. Lay the groundwork for construction of the Middle East Center for World Missions in Beirut, Lebanon, by continuing to develop detailed plans, raising significant start-up funds, and acquiring property in Northeast Beirut.

Lebanon Crisis Fund

Amid Lebanon’s economic collapse, the outbreak of COVID and subsequent lockdowns, and the devastating explosion in Beirut, Horizons has launched the Lebanon Crisis Fund, to provide help for thousands of suffering families.
