In 2022, God opened a door to an exciting opportunity for ministry growth in South Lebanon. Horizons has taken on responsibility for several strategic ministry assets that expands the reach of the gospel to tens of thousands of people in Tyre, and the surrounding region.

Background

Since 2012, Horizons has built up strategic ministry infrastructure in Lebanon, including ministry centers, guest houses, farmland, medical clinics, transportation, food, and missional businesses. Horizons is developing these assets in response to the needs of local churches and their communities, as part of a long-term strategy to spread the gospel in the region.

Horizons is also integrating a number of properties developed by Horizons partner Mohammad Yamout. Sadly, Mohammad passed away in May 2022, and his family approached Horizons to take responsibility for assets which include two new farms, a medical clinic, sewing center, and guest houses. Horizons has assumed responsibility for paying off the outstanding debts on these properties in the coming months. Though this is a significant challenge, it also represents a massive expansion of our footprint in South Lebanon, which will make a huge impact for decades to come. We thank God for Mohammad’s ministry, and for the opportunity to work with his family to continue his legacy of preaching the gospel in South Lebanon.

Current ministries include:

  • Evangelistic meetings

  • Discipleship classes

  • Children’s ministry

  • Sewing shop to produce blankets and other goods

  • Medical center (for which a container of medications is arriving in 6 weeks)

  • Food distribution through local churches

  • Farming for food distribution

  • Language and music school

Tyre serves as one of two primary locations of growing ministry infrastructure in the heavily Shiite region of South Lebanon. his well-developed ministry infrastructure, established by Mohammad Yamout, includes several ministry spaces and missional businesses that shine Christ’s light in the community. The Tyre Ministry Center includes a number of classrooms to provide medication for children, evangelistic services, discipleship classes, and a pharmacy. Meanwhile, the River of Healing Medical Center provides a range of medical services, and serves as a base for international medical missions teams.
